Administrative Assistant to the Associate Conference Ministers
Janet joined the Conference staff in April 2019. In her position, she provides administrative support to the Associate Conference Ministers, Director of Leadership Development, and the hard-working volunteers of the Committee on Ministry.
Prior to joining the Conference staff, she was the faith formation director at Edina Morningside Community Church from 2014-2019. She also taught literature, composition and public speaking at St. Catherine’s University from 1991-1999. Before that, she was the community relations manager for Barnes & Noble on Nicollet Mall from 1994-2004, the “book lady” on KARE-11 News, and director Westminster Town Hall Forum from 2002-2004.
Among her many talents are how to ship a barrel of frozen mango puree to Taiwan and get it through customs, how to pose for art students without wiggling, and how to make a proper latte.
Janet is a lifelong Minnesotan with a fondness for wandering in Wisconsin. She has a bachelor’s degree in English, a master’s in comparative literature, and was recognized for a literacy program that she created and ran for six years at the Minneapolis Downtown Open School.
She is grateful for the Conference’s work environment in which people genuinely take the time to pray for others and express gratitude for the work that others are doing. She is inspired by the poor, quiet corners where people are doing kind things, unheralded.
Outside of work, Janet teaches writing at The Loft, through community education and in public schools, and she has studied at Aspen Summer Words and One Story. She loves spending time in nature with her dog and is a member of The Izaak Walton League of America, Friends of the Mississippi River, and Friends of the Eloise Butler Wild Flower Garden. She has also been an advocate for victims of domestic violence through Safe Journey, an Art Hound with MPR, and a judge for the Minnesota Book Awards.
