In 2022, your financial gifts supported the Minnesota Conference’s ministry to walk beside congregations as they continue to find new ways to worship, to learn, to serve, and strengthen your communities of faith.
What is God calling the Minnesota Conference to do over the next three years? That is the question the board of directors and staff leaders pondered in crafting the Conference’s new strategic plan, approved by the board in early March.
Over the past few weeks, the Conference staff has been inspired by the faithful and creative responses to the COVID-19 crisis. Congregations have quickly developed alternative, virtual spaces for folks to connect, provide community care, and gather for community worship and prayer.
On March 13, Conference Minister Shari Prestemon recommended that churches suspend in-person worship and other activities through the end of March. Nearly all congregations had done so as of March 22.
As we all navigate these difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has never been more important to rely on each other in new ways and celebrate the connections among us in the Minnesota Conference UCC. Churches small and large, whether in greater Minnesota or the metro area, are all feeling the pain of this unimaginable situation.
In response to updated recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health, Conference staff assessed all outdoor ministry and faith formation programs scheduled during the upcoming 8-week period.
On March 1, a remarkable thing happened in the lives of congregations of Mizpah United Church of Christ and St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. After months of discernment, conversation and planning, the two celebrated and commissioned their new name—Spirit of Peace, a UCC/ELCA congregation—the latest step in a process to form one congregation.
