Young Adults Work for Justice

On June 20, the Minnesota Conference’s interns and two other young adults met at Peace United Church of Christ in St. Cloud to participate in a Black Lives Matter Sidewalk Chalk event. Along with youth from the Church of God in Christ Church (who shares space with Peace UCC), they filled the sidewalk in front of the church with messages of hope, unity, and information to help all who walk by understand how current events have been affected by our past and how they will lead us into a better future.

In the courtyard of the church, the group wrote names of those individuals of color who have died through unnecessary violence by others who feel threatened by the color of another person’s skin. The group read the names and prayed for a new narrative for all of us.

As Joy Ohana from United Church of Christ in New Brighton said, “I participated because I want to make a change in any way I can and remind people that it’s not over and we need to keep pushing and fighting, it’s still just the beginning.”
