A New Home for United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities

Seminary Announces Bold Move

United Theological Seminary, a closely related seminary of the United Church of Christ and a beloved partner of the Minnesota Conference, has announced its intention to move from its current campus in New Brighton, MN and seek a new home.

In a statement from United today, UTS President Dr. Lew Zeidner wrote:  “It is the mission of United to foster intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth to educate innovative and compassionate leaders.  Our assets, including our property, must serve that mission.  This decision allows us to not only uphold but better carry out that mission.  At a time when seminary students are increasingly seeking connection, flexibility, and community involvement, United has the opportunity to be proactive and intentional in providing just that.  No educational programs, concentrations, or offerings will be impacted by this move.”

Conference Minister Reverend Shari Prestemon, who serves as Vice Chair of UTS’ Board of Trustees, said:  “I celebrate this decision today and all that will unfold from it.  It’s a result of much prayerful and careful discernment by the Board of Trustees and UTS leadership, and signals a willingness to act boldly for the sake of our mission.  UTS is a treasured institution of theological education in the United Church of Christ and Minnesota Conference and we look forward to continued close relationship as together we form leaders for the future of the Church.”  Several other members of the Minnesota Conference UCC also serve on the UTS Board of Trustees.
